In the renowned alpine destination of Verbier, Switzerland, Studiododici, led by architect Francesca Cutini, has transformed a traditional chalet into a refined, contemporary retreat that seamlessly balances innovation with mountain authenticity. The 150-square-metre residence unfolds across multiple levels, all connected by a striking self-supporting glass staircase, the sculptural centerpiece of the design.

Set within a landscape known for its off-piste skiing and timeless chalet architecture, the project reinterprets local vernacular style through modern craftsmanship and sustainable materials. Commissioned by a client deeply passionate about Verbier and its alpine culture, Cutini was entrusted with a complete turnkey renovation of a disused property originally clad in carpet and fir panelling.

The interior concept celebrates the warmth of recycled larch wood, laid horizontally to enhance spatial flow, contrasted with cool, colorful materials in the kitchen to achieve balance and vibrancy. The double-height living and dining area forms the heart of the home, while large panoramic windows frame views of the Petit and Grand Combin peaks, merging interior comfort with the surrounding landscape.

Every detail reflects Studiododici’s commitment to bespoke design and Italian craftsmanship, from the custom Corten steel and larch dining table to concealed wardrobes and a serene private spa. The mezzanine study, designed for the client’s son, continues the dialogue between wood, light, and form.

The self-supporting glass staircase, engineered without visible joints or welds, epitomizes the project’s philosophy: a perfect synthesis of technological precision, artisanal mastery, and alpine soul.
