This almost 50,000 square foot astonishing property in the heart of Mayfair, London is an opulent home which has been deemed Britain’s Most Expensive Home and was commissioned for a Channel 4 documentary to showcase the design and build of this luxurious space.

The brief given to Arista Design was to create a “home like no other” with design aspects in the home that were fun, adventurous and quirky. The client also needed the space to be able to accommodate charity balls for over 100 guests. This large home is the combination of two mansions, one of which is the Ancastor House at the front, and a townhouse at the rear joined by a courtyard. On first viewing, the client was taken aback by the phenomenal features of the property but did not like the previous owner’s ostentatious décor. The two properties joined together make this one home only slightly smaller than Westminster Cathedral and with Arista Design’s expertise the space has been restored to the original period grandeur of the mansions.

The basement, which connects the two original mansions, has been restored through adding a spa, a gym, a 40-foot swimming pool, a 1,400 square foot ballroom, a nightclub and a cinema. The swimming pool features a moving lava wall which was an idea of the clients. Arista have achieved the client’s vision by placing LED panels behind the custom-built lava-effect wall creating the illusion of moving lava. Once the panels had been fitted, the designers found that three panels of the LED lava had malfunctioned which meant the wall had to be taken down after fitting. This was a tense time for the designers as the wall panels were temperamental and easily broken. The designers overcame this complication without any added issues and created this striking and unusual wall display.

Many specialists and artisans were needed for such unique pieces throughout the property, including the marquetry using specialist materials like mother of pearl with shagreen inlay and specialist upholsters for handwoven embroidery were essential for a project to this scale. This magnificent gem in the heart of Mayfair is breathtaking, elegant and has been completed exceptionally by Arista Design.
