A South London family has transformed their cherished Victorian detached house near Clapham Common with the help of Stanza Interior Design and dRAW Architects. The project seamlessly blends the home’s traditional charm with a sophisticated, modern aesthetic, creating a stunning modern extension and a completely remodeled interior.

The clients tasked Stanza Interior Design with crafting a design that respects the historical essence of the building while incorporating modern interiors. The project required integrating the family’s existing lighting, artwork, and select furniture into the new scheme. Given the vast space provided by the extension and an expanded basement, the challenge was to maintain a homely feel that complemented the traditional upper levels.

The first floor remains true to its traditional roots, featuring a master bedroom and a luxurious Lema dressing room. This room mirrors the footprint of the bedroom and includes seating that offers a tranquil view of the back garden through floor-to-ceiling glass. The bathroom, a highlight of the home, retains its original stunning marble, restored by MGS Restoration. This 25-year-old marble remains a focal point, with a central bath and statement lighting from Bert Frank enhancing the space. Separate alcoves for the toilet and shower create a spacious, serene environment.

Despite its impressive 4,834-square-foot footprint, the home’s interior was dated and needed a complete overhaul to suit the family’s lifestyle. Stanza Interior Design reimagined the layout, optimizing the space for the couple and their two children. A significant transformation included converting a tired artist’s studio at the rear of the property into a luxurious indoor pool area, complete with a sauna, wet room, and a golf simulator.

Stanza Interior Design’s expert blend of traditional and contemporary elements has resulted in a home that not only meets the family’s needs but also stands as a testament to thoughtful and harmonious interior design.
