Doreve Nicholaeff Architecture created this contemporary Cape Cod residence to reinterpret the region’s traditional gambrel form while responding thoughtfully to its spectacular setting overlooking Cape Cod Bay. With sweeping north facing views extending to Provincetown, the home balances the familiar character of Cape Cod architecture with refined geometry, abundant natural light and a strong connection to the surrounding landscape.

The clients sought a timeless home rooted in local architectural tradition while supporting contemporary living. Doreve Nicholaeff Architecture sculpted the interior volumes through carefully considered rooflines, using symmetry and precise angles to create spaces that feel both disciplined and dynamic. The site’s north facing orientation presented a significant challenge, making daylight a central driver of the design. A dramatic clerestory was introduced to capture sunlight from multiple directions, drawing natural light deep into the home while uniting the primary living spaces and creating an ever changing experience throughout the day.

The residence is organised around a series of courtyards that strengthen the relationship between indoor and outdoor living. Two wings embrace a circular drive to form sheltered outdoor spaces protected from prevailing northern winds, while dormers and a separate cabana connected by a pergola reinforce the composition and sense of openness.

Inside, the main floor is arranged for relaxed living and entertaining, with the kitchen, butler’s pantry, dining area and living spaces all benefiting from expansive glazing and panoramic views. The first floor also includes the primary suite, a private office and direct access to the heated pool and terrace. Through thoughtful planning, radiant heated floors, integrated lighting and a careful response to site, Doreve Nicholaeff Architecture created a residence that honours Cape Cod’s architectural heritage while presenting a timeless interpretation of modern coastal living.
