Eco-id Architects Pte Ltd created a hospitality experience at Hotel Indigo Ningbo Riverside that immerses guests in the industrial and maritime heritage of Ningbo’s SCI Harbor and historic Old Bund. Drawing inspiration from the city’s wharf, railway station, post office and matches factory, the design transforms the hotel into a layered narrative of discovery, where each space reflects a different aspect of the neighbourhood’s identity.

Guests are welcomed through an arrival lobby defined by a dramatic curved ceiling inspired by anchored ships. Crafted from bronze-coloured stainless-steel mesh, the installation required specialist fabrication, advanced metalworking expertise and extensive prototyping to achieve its sculptural form while meeting fire safety requirements. A spiral staircase then leads to the main lobby, inspired by the Old North Railway Station. Here, reception counters reference mooring bollards through black marble and liquid metal finishes, while terrazzo flooring, brass lighting and nautical details reinforce the sense of travel and nostalgia.

Throughout the hotel, Eco-id Architects Pte Ltd balances variety with cohesion. The Neighbourhood Café reflects Ningyu Wharf through oceanic tones and textured materials, while the All Day Dining area evokes a leisurely steamship cruise with porthole-inspired details. Guestrooms reference the elegance of the Orient Express through cabin-style furnishings, suitcase bedside tables and warm timber finishes that create an inviting retreat.

By interpreting Ningbo’s cultural heritage through contemporary design, Eco-id Architects Pte Ltd delivers a hotel experience that feels authentic, immersive and deeply connected to its surrounding neighbourhood.
