Shortlisted: Hotel Design The Americas Award

The International Hotel & Property Awards 2026

The contemporary luxury hotel, realized through the collaboration of EDG, Michael Graves, and Nunzio Marc DeSantis Architects, is conceived as a refined civic environment that harmonizes craft, landscape, and community within a high-rise context. Drawing from the founding vision of shared space shaped by natural beauty and civic connection, the project translates this ethos into a contemporary architectural expression that encourages interaction between local residents and travelers.

The design emphasizes spatial clarity and layered material authenticity, utilizing a restrained yet tactile palette of warm oak wall paneling, leathered quartzite, metallic plaster, and softly illuminated metalwork. Public areas are organized as an interior streetscape—legible, daylit, and carefully choreographed—where expansive glazing maintains a continuous dialogue with the surrounding district.

The arrival experience establishes a balance between energy and calm, articulated through a generous promenade with integrated seating that offers both prospect and refuge. A curated concierge library, seamlessly embedded within bespoke millwork, provides a point of local engagement. Sculptural interventions, including illuminated vertical fins and a cascading metal chain installation, introduce depth while intuitively guiding circulation.

Food and beverage venues extend the hotel’s role as a communal living room. The signature restaurant is conceived as an open, immersive environment where culinary processes are placed on display, reinforcing transparency and craft. Upper-level event spaces provide flexibility for a range of gatherings, maintaining material continuity and architectural coherence throughout.

Guest rooms serve as calm urban sanctuaries, defined by natural light, expansive views, and refined detailing. The project ultimately succeeds through the integration of architecture, interiors, and program into a cohesive and disciplined design narrative, resulting in a contemporary hospitality environment that is both connected to its context and enduring in its expression.
