Interior Designer: Luxury Projects – Laura Pomponi

Exterior Designer: Tim Heywood Design

Shipyard: Damen Yachting – Amels

MY MOONSTONE is a 60 metre yacht which features custom interiors by Luxury Projects Studio (LP), who was asked to develop an interior design concept by Damen Yachting for the Amels 200.

The brief was for a top luxury interior, appealing to a large clientele, given that at this stage the design was for the series. This provided a real chance for Luxury Projects to express their creativity and utilise new ideas during the entire design process with the overriding inspiration being a timeless style.

Luxury Projects focussed on the major innovative features (ceilings, lighting and walls) representing the design framework and signature of this new Amels design and therefore allowing easy further changes to match the clients’ tastes later in the process. LP was also able to add features and finishes to the existing layout in order to enhance guest comfort and crew service. For the design approach, simplicity in architectural lines combined with contrasting materials and the proper use of light were brought together to create a timeless style with an elegant, homely feeling.

Simplicity of construction was key to meeting the brief of being able to work to customisations requested late into the build process. This led to the idea that the major innovative features could represent the base design allowing for easier further changes to match specific client requests at a later stage, with for example, bespoke free-standing furniture to give character to the interior and reduce the dominance of structural furniture.

A number of special and innovating materials have also been used to create the element of surprise and bring a sense of life to the interior. In collaboration with Italian Artisans, Luxury Projects created unique materials (a process which required several tests, samples and mock-ups to reach the perfect required finish and effect) as a resin featuring “melted in” metals shades with a 3D effect and another standout innovation is the innovative yet ancient “pozzolana”, which is also known by its Latin name, opus signum.
