Spa Spa Hotel Six Senses London at The Whiteley by EPR Architects

EPR Architects has completed the interior architecture for Six Senses Spa London, a major wellness destination located within the subterranean levels of the reimagined former Whiteley Department Store in London. Forming part of Six Senses London at The Whiteley, the project represents the brand’s first urban hotel and spa in the Northern Hemisphere and sits within Foster + Partners’ wider £1.5 billion redevelopment of the landmark building.

Working within Foster + Partners’ architectural vision, EPR Architects was tasked with creating an intuitive layout that would integrate Six Senses’ wellness focused philosophy into a complex Grade II listed structure. Following extensive collaboration with developer Valouran and operator Six Senses, EPR Architects developed a design strategy that translates the brand’s renowned resort model into a contemporary urban experience centred on wellbeing.

At the heart of the project is the 2,300 square metre spa, conceived by EPR Architects as an immersive environment where guests can restore, recover and reconnect amid the pace of city life. Accessed via the building’s restored heritage staircase and a suspended spiral staircase above a reflection pool, the spa is carefully organised to create a seamless journey through a diverse range of wellness spaces.

Developed alongside global hospitality design studio AvroKO, the interiors draw inspiration from London’s subterranean architecture and historic underground transport systems. EPR Architects employed tactile materials, vaulted forms and carefully sequenced spaces to create an atmosphere that balances movement and stillness. Facilities include a 20 metre indoor swimming pool, London’s first dedicated magnesium pool, cold plunge, sauna and steam rooms, cryotherapy, flotation pod, relaxation areas and a 325 square metre fitness centre.

One of the defining features is the main pool hall, where plaster vaults and arches reference early twentieth century European subway systems. Green tiling, Mogliano stone, custom lighting inspired by the Paris Metro and a dramatic skylight flooding the space with natural light create a memorable focal point.

Through careful control of volume, proportion and circulation, EPR Architects has delivered a spa that combines advanced wellness facilities with a deeply restorative guest experience, establishing a new benchmark for urban wellbeing in London.
