Onada Terrace Suites

External Reference transformed the Onada Terrace Suites at W Barcelona into immersive hospitality environments that redefine contemporary luxury through narrative-driven design, material innovation, and experiential spatial storytelling. Conceived as more than premium hotel accommodation, each suite was designed as a complete spatial experience where architecture, interiors, advanced materials and bespoke furniture converge to create emotionally engaging environments.

Drawing inspiration from the Mediterranean lifestyle and a contemporary Gaudí 2.0 vision, External Reference developed a distinctive design language characterised by fluid geometries, tactile finishes and strong conceptual identities. The project reinterprets luxury hospitality through spaces that prioritise atmosphere, sensation and memory, creating environments that resonate with guests long after their stay.

Central to the design approach was the use of computational design and parametric modelling to generate sculptural forms inspired by the movement of the sea, the horizon and the changing light of Barcelona’s coastline. Custom 3D-printed walls and ceilings were produced as modular components and assembled on site, ensuring precision, continuity and construction efficiency. Bespoke furniture, advanced composites, lacquered finishes, textured coatings and integrated lighting systems further reinforce the seamless relationship between architecture and interior design.
