Garuda Design has transformed Cromlix into a distinctive boutique retreat where heritage, nature and contemporary luxury come together to create an authentic and memorable guest experience. Following the successful completion of Andy and Kim Murray’s private Surrey residence, Garuda Design was commissioned to reimagine the historic country house hotel, a property with deep personal significance for the Murray family, having hosted both Andy and Kim’s wedding celebrations as well as Jamie Murray’s wedding.

From the outset, Garuda Design sought to preserve the character of the Victorian estate while introducing a stronger sense of warmth, personality and individuality. The ambition was to create a luxury destination that felt less like a conventional hotel and more like a beautifully curated country home, reflecting both the heritage of Cromlix and the family’s vision for its future.

Drawing inspiration from the surrounding estate, Garuda Design incorporated abundant floral influences, layered textures and natural materials to bring the beauty of the gardens indoors. Carefully curated artworks also became a defining feature of the interiors, reflecting Andy Murray’s appreciation for contemporary art. Paintings on loan from the Royal Scottish Academy sit alongside works from Andy’s private collection, including pieces by David Shrigley and Damien Hirst, adding depth and personality throughout the hotel.
