Signature Villas at The Ritz-Carlton Ras Al Khaimah, Al Wadi Desert

H+A delivered the Architecture and Interior Design for the Ritz Carlton Signature Villas at Ras Al Khaimah Al Wadi Desert, completed in April 2024. The project comprises eight standalone two bedroom hotel suites constructed as an extension to the existing Ritz Carlton resort, set within a private nature reserve. H+A’s approach was guided by a deep understanding of the desert landscape, ensuring the architecture feels embedded within its setting rather than imposed upon it.

The low slung forms, fragmented massing and muted material palette echo the tones and textures of the surrounding dunes and indigenous vegetation. Stone, earth toned renders, timber and textured finishes were selected to create continuity between the buildings and the wider Al Wadi desert environment. The villas follow the natural contours of the terrain, reducing visual impact while preserving ecological patterns and uninterrupted views across the landscape.

H+A also shaped the spatial planning to prioritise privacy, tranquillity and framed panoramic views, allowing each villa to function as a secluded retreat. Light, shadow and ventilation are carefully orchestrated to enhance comfort while limiting reliance on artificial systems. Internally, the design balances simplicity with understated luxury so that the architecture never competes with the desert setting.

A key expression of H+A’s design philosophy is found in the bespoke ceiling of the main living areas, where a modern interpretation of traditional barasti timber was created by skilled craftspeople. Each timber dowel was hand cut and individually positioned to form an organic composition that reflects vernacular heritage through contemporary craft. This combination of restraint, environmental sensitivity and artisan skill defines H+A’s contribution to this one of a kind desert hotel experience.
