This project is an alfresco Cigar Snug for Home House, a Private Members Club in Portman Square London. An area to reflect the ethos of the club, allowing the members to enjoy a cigar and drink. Eliská Design Associates Ltd were asked to create a dark and moody but colourfully highlighted “fumoir ” snug in a site specific area of an exclusive members club.

Eliská’s design brief was to deliver an atmospheric place to spend time mulling life, accompanied by a fine drink and a cigar. To create an elegant and enduring space that could be used by guests all year round in a busy and popular socialising part of the members club. Finishes were paramount- the client asked for a contemporary version of the classic chesterfield buttoned banquette, and to create as many seating options as possible within a limited space. Slick, but comfortable with a resonance of the iconic club’s architectural heritage. The studio was asked to focus on bold leather details evocative of heritage luxuriousness and to describe through design the timeless combination of leather and tobacco.

The designer brief required design solutions to transform an outdoor space into something that felt like an intimate, sophisticated and comfortable interior space, without the use of architectural refurbishment. The team were asked to create solutions to disguise immovable, unsightly architectural features and were required to create sound proofing solutions, which was then incorporated into the design on the walls as wall panelling. The tented ceiling was incorporated into the design to also help with sound proofing. The key aspect of the project is the mix of fabric, leather, aged mirror with sound proofed wall panelling The design works well, as it creates an ambient atmosphere for members to relax with a drink and smoke a cigar.
