Bevis Design Associates design approach was to provide new contemporary, fresh and stylish lounge which encompassed the aesthetics and feel of Cambridge culture and heritage, with the functionality and services that met the lounge requirements.

This Executive Lounge has been thoughtfully designed providing intimate space as well as group lounge area for relaxing, dining and working. It has a timeless design with a contemporary edge providing a luxury guest experience in an interesting and unique environment with many cleverly designed features depicting the location. Bevis Design Associates were responsible for the complete architecture, interior design, procurement and project management of this project, delivered on time and on budget.

A dramatic artwork of strands incorporating sequences comprising the 3 letters of the genetic code are installed in front of staggered mini timber blocks portraying the ‘building blocks of life’ these mini blocks are also incorporated into the contemporary fitted display furniture in a subtle and clever way. 3D Molecular artwork and pendant lights, reflecting the DNA double helix strand, further enhance this design reference. There is also a nod to the more obvious references to Cambridge culture such as rowing, bicycles and architecture, all of which have been carefully considered and located.

A large format TV screen is set flush within a feature wall located over a linear display fire. The wall section opposite provides a stunning bespoke full height digitally printed wallcovering incorporating the lounge’s tonal grey colours and splash of gold, enhanced by the hand blown amber glass table lamps located in front.

Attention to detail within the design is exceptional; from the gold colour matching insides of the lamp shades to the back-lit ‘floating’ frameless glass display shelves, the tiny amber beads that separate the DNA chrome letters of the feature artwork and each individual piece of art and accessory, all thoughtfully considered and placed.

Bevis Design Associates felt it was important to provide a sense of location within the design and this was achieved through references in the finishes and feature artwork as well as the overall feel and environment of the lounge and associated areas. The complete design, procurement, project management from inception to completion was carried out by BDA all delivered on time and within budget to much acclaim. The owner and hotel operater were very pleased and the lounge has received great feedback and reviews from guests.
