14 Hills Restaurant is a new ‘Garden in the Sky’ in the City of London. Located on the 14th floor at 120 Fenchurch Street, this design incorporates plants and foliage as a main part of the scheme. Olive trees with long, organic branches help to enclose the space. Collections of other botanicals will feature heavily throughout scheme to soften the interior and draw the scale down to a more personal level. This celebrates how well the English are at cultivating and growing global plants in a British environment.

The restaurant walls for the most part are glazed and therefore forms a perfect environment for greenery. Nods to the English garden, the terrace and the greenhouse are prevalent in this design not just through the use of plants but also in the materials and textures used, elements of rattan and wicker have been used in the furniture and throughout. Large overscale pergolas make the dining intimate and add warmth with natural timber finishes.

The buildings crystalline appearance provokes the need to use natural, raw materials such as stone, porcelain and timber. Letting the organic nature of materials and emphasising the beauty in material patterns and textures. Key aspect without the doubt is the pockets of spaces that the guest will uncover, that are enveloped with planting throughout the Restaurant. Robert Angell wanted to make sure this evokes a feeling that connects deeply with people, and brings out the joys of discovering new spaces every time. This together with lighting create a magical atmosphere.

Abstract art & sculptures inspired by natural forms and materials were commissioned to add depth, interest and something totally unique to this restaurant. By using warm, neutral tones and materials which allow natural light to flow it creates an environment which celebrates the daylight and as the evening comes the interior creates dark, warm and intimate spaces to dine and have fun in.

The design works because it is effortless, it is fun and original. The materials and textures used within the space create harmonious experience. The zoning with Planting is done to create cocoons with the right lighting levels that create perfect backdrop for the interiors. The design connects to nature, bringing the outside in creating a natural environment for guests to enjoy. Plants and foliage immediately making people at ease, evoking the deep connection to nature.

The hundreds of plants that were commissioned and carefully installed into the space were selected by RADI. Lighting also plays vital part of the scheme and enhances the interiors in a subtle but very important way.
