In the heart of Comporta’s idyllic village of Carvalhal, Quinta da Comporta is the new sustainable signature project envisioned and designed by renowned Portuguese architect, Miguel Câncio Martins.  As an undeniable tribute to the cultural heritage of Comporta, Hotel Quinta da Comporta provides the perfect translation of its inspiring lifestyle through the integration of traditional architectural lines and connection to nature.

Quinta da Comporta’s design is inviting, integrated into the community and is faithful to Comporta’s culture both in style and lifestyle without compromising the highest level of comfort and sophistication. The region’s identity and spirit emerge in the most natural way through its 73 accommodation units – Villas, Suites and Double, Deluxe and Duplex Rooms, through the Oryza Spa, where rice plays a key role and is the base for its concept, through the Restaurant where the seasonal menu is mainly focused on local organic ingredients, and through the infinity pool with uninterrupted views over the rice fields.

The design reflects the local architecture and spirit. Comporta’s heritage is inherently present in the property and Miguel Câncio Martins’s tribute is an invitation for one to immerse in its originality. In any space within the hotel, guests are received as if they are entering their own house in Comporta. A home made of traditions and artefacts with an authentic interpretation of the charismatic local design and a commitment to comfort. In the Spa, essential oil blends and rice treatments nurture the connection to the surroundings and, ultimately, to a more mindful self. At the Restaurant’s table, local ingredients and bio produce are food for the soul. And the region’s wines become the perfect way to celebrate a never-ending tale of moments discovered and lived at the heart of Carvalhal’s village.

The colours, the choice of the furniture, and all design decisions were made in harmony with the surroundings. The different buildings embrace the terracotta surface, where the rice was dried in the old days, and they are open to the wide endless rice fields. The vegetation is part of the architecture with the setup of the local species in the closed spaces. In the open spaces, the sand garden makes the perfect integration with the buildings. The design has total respect for the local architecture with the long warehouses in masonry and tiled roof, as well as the villas like the fishermen huts in reed. The barns have spectacular structures which opens to the rice fields whilst remaining cosy and comfortable. Here, simplicity of the volumes and finishes gives a visual comfort and peaceful feeling.

Miguel Câncio Martins relied on his artistry, his love and admiration for the location to create his first signature project. Knowing that the foundation was the key, he kept in mind that less can be more. The gifts Comporta gave him throughout his life are reflected in each detail and remind us of the most valuable things in life. Nature, family, home, time: the essence of Quinta da Comporta. “I wanted to develop a place where people could reunite and experience a sense of belonging, of being at home. That is what Comporta represents to me: the space and the time to disconnect to authentically reconnect with the most fundamental values in life.”
