The NYX Brand is modern, exciting and very unique! The philosophy of the Brand has certain elements that it must encapsulate and to be given a brief like this is a dream for any Designer. It is Super fashion orientated, funky, sassy, urban, cool, Rock and Roll, Classy and Hipster.

NYX was the Goddess of the night, and this reflects the Party and night time vibe of the hotel. Add to that the themes of Urban Jungle, night animals such as the Black Panther, Music and Art and you have some idea of the direction! In creating the HYX in Holborn the designers were very aware of the surrounding area, the Art college across the road, Which, The British Museum, Bloomsbury, the Hoxton close by, the other luxury brand hotels in the area.

The materials we used were very important as the structure was existing and was very dated. The space had to feel contemporary but with a sense of the building itself. The main flooring that was used was an oversized, multi coloured terrazzo tile which added a scale and colour to the space, brighter pink tones in the Dining area and moving to greys and blacks in the bar and Reception area. The use of pencil style coloured tiles broke up the heavy pillars and turned them into something more decorative rather than the solid structures dividing the spaces, that they had been.

Pattern, colour and texture were all important elements to create the funky atmosphere. Coloured led lighting, coloured neon artworks, vibrant multi coloured upholstery fabrics, mixed with acrylic printed table tops all sit within the pace in a riot of colour and pattern, grounded by the oversized terrazzo floor and held in place with the dramatically dark ceiling.

Garuda design designed a wallpaper from the spines of old Vinyls to link the importance of the Music and created a large black abstract shape for the DJ station. Reflective 3d gold tiles, backlit, exotic stone and dark mirrors reflect and create another dimension. Art was also an important factor and they sourced various local artists for the Interior spaces.

It is part mural, graffiti, and boldly makes a Statement on a busy intersection that NYX has arrived and is a very different place to be. Whilst the public spaces are dynamic and exciting your curiosity then takes you to the bedrooms. The corridors are dark and sensual, intriguing. The bedrooms themselves are playful, cool and colourful. They all have a dramatic backdrop and large artwork and a slightly mid century feel to the furniture, large padded leather headboards, teak sideboards with your own stereo and a brightly coloured fridge.
