AsiaWorld-Expo, located in Chek Lap Kok, Hong Kong, sought to transform from a conference and exhibition venue providing a specific set of services into a multi-angle communications platform that serves the needs of the internationally-minded younger generation who are plugged into the information economy. One way to meet these criteria is to enhance the quality of the functional spaces in the Expo, adding and focusing on high-end hospitality that rises to the expectations of cosmopolitan expo-goers and customers from the surrounding area.

The space has a sunny atrium, with the restaurant located at its end. The designer deliberately shifted the layout and adjusted the interior architecture, aligning the main entrance of the restaurant with the central axis of the atrium, making the restaurant the protagonist of the space. The restaurant’s entrance is a striking bronze metal arch with punched pattern louvers.

The restaurant’s front of house is a sizeable 710 square metres, creating a spacious, luxurious dining experience. A large copper bowl-shaped beverage bar is located next to the entrance area, creating a modern atmosphere where guests can enjoy a pre-dinner drink and socialise with friends. The bar is also the central point of the restaurant, with connections to all the various dining areas. The restaurant has full-width – 48 metre-long – floor-to-ceiling windows with no obstructions. The layout of the dining halls and the VIP room are oriented to maximise views of the panoramic landscapes outside, ensuring that all corners of the restaurant are immersed in the natural scenery.

The design of NUVA澐 is above all modern and luxurious, with stylistic elements that depart from the “usual” restaurant décor. The colour palette adopts bronze, white jade and warm greys; the lines are simple and straightforward, with arc-like details enhancing the atmosphere. Mirrored ceilings in the bar area and dining halls enhance the visual space of the building’s shorter-than-usual floor height. The ceilings are also hung with a large crystal bar chandeliers in the shape of cirrus clouds, a metaphor for the ever-changing clouds and sky outside; while the bar floor is paved with marble in large floral patterns, as are the carpets in the dining halls and VIP room, a metaphor for the constant beauty of the Earth.
