The Stoos Lodge is a unique and striking new generation Design Hotel located in the charming mountain village of Stoos in the Swiss Alps. Completed in December 2022, this hotel is of central importance to the area, as it replaces the former Hotel Klingenstock and expands the range of accommodations and services available to both tourists and locals.

The hotel’s architecture mediates between urban lifestyle and alpine context, creating a building that blends seamlessly into its surroundings while offering modern amenities and facilities. Located directly next to the mountain station of the world’s steepest funicular railway, the Stoos Lodge defines a central place that never existed before, acting as both a functional arrival point and a visually striking centerpiece for the village.

The compact and vertical structure of the hotel is juxtaposed with the flat, horizontally extended mountain station, creating a dynamic interplay between the two buildings. The design of the Stoos Lodge is based on the appearance of historic mountain hotels, with a strictly symmetrical main building that accommodates the majority of the hotel’s functions. Precisely placed extensions join the main building, expanding the rooms on the ground floor and creating a harmonious relationship with the surrounding spaces.

Despite its size, the Stoos Lodge is fully integrated into the context of the mountain village and landscape through the use of an alpine building vocabulary. The solid-looking base, continuous wooden facades, and pitched roof covered with natural slate all pay homage to the traditional architectural style of the area.

Inside the hotel, the interior design also mediates between urban lifestyle and alpine context, allowing guests to experience the proximity of the Stoos mountain region to urban centres. The result is a unique atmosphere that blends the best of both worlds, with contemporary amenities and facilities that complement the natural beauty of the surroundings.

The original architectural design of the Stoos Lodge was developed by Globalas AG as an unfinished project. The project was then taken over, reviewed, and elaborated by G&A Architekten AG in order to be subsequently realized. The result is a stunning new hotel that has quickly become a popular destination for families, hikers, and anyone seeking to experience the beauty of the Swiss Alps in comfort and style.
