Sands Corporation, renowned for its innovative transformations, spearheaded the revitalisation of an underutilised interior space within a hotel, introducing a groundbreaking adaptive reuse concept resulting in a 6,000-seat arena. Inspired by the allure of the Orient Express, Sands Corporation seamlessly melded grand oriental aesthetics with timeless British design elements.

The pre-function areas welcome guests with a palette of copper, rose gold, and metal, evoking warmth and elegance through rounded edges, materiality and form. Distinctive portals guide guests through transition spaces, while evoking the excitement and charm of the Victorian era together with the thrill of attending an event. Descending into the rich interior, bespoke chandelier lighting and custom-designed furnishings, such as wicker chairs and solid timber seating, curated by the interior design team, envelop guests in opulence.

Two custom carpets, strategically placed, unify the space through carefully manipulated scale, motif, vibrancy and colour inversion. Ornate ceiling coffer designs echo throughout, linking zones and evoking the nostalgic elegance of London’s live events.

Designing synergistic yet distinct zones posed a challenge, requiring seamless integration of back-of-house spaces for operational efficiency. Drawing inspiration from Victorian Neo-Gothic architecture, exposed metalwork, and intricate steel detailing akin to St. Pancras station, the design team crafted bespoke architectural elements tailored to each space.

Aligning with the client’s vision, the design philosophy prioritised experiential narratives and branding identity, ensuring a memorable experience for guests and performers alike. With flexibility in mind, the architecture and interior design team curated spaces conducive to various event types.

The result transcends expectations, making a bold statement within the precinct, offering patrons a timeless fusion of London elegance with an Asian influence. Architectural arches seamlessly integrate the arena with the hotel’s existing corridors, while entry portals denote VIP access, enhancing the overall guest experience. Under Sands Corporation’s leadership, the venue emerges as a beacon of sophisticated design and unparalleled entertainment.
