Sara Cosgrove Studio undertook a phased refurbishment of The Horse and Jockey Hotel, an iconic destination in the Irish countryside, famed for its welcoming atmosphere and celebration of the equestrian world. Nestled between Cork and Dublin, this storied hotel required a fresh yet respectful reimagining that catered to its guest profiles.

Sara Cosgrove’s approach was practical and thoughtful, ensuring the hotel remained operational throughout the refurbishment. The goal was to create a warm, welcoming space that was maintainable and easy to install, achieved through collaboration with trusted suppliers.

A pivotal aspect of the project was the development of model rooms. These rooms were instrumental in aligning the client with Sara Cosgrove’s vision and allowed for fine-tuning details before the full rollout. Adjustments, such as repositioning the desk and fridge, enhanced the room’s flow and functionality. The model rooms also helped illustrate the impact of wallcoverings, leading to the creation of custom designs unique to the hotel.

Colour played a crucial role in the design, with each floor having a complementary yet distinct visual language. This approach maximised the strengths of individual floors while addressing challenges like darker rooms.

Paying homage to the hotel’s heritage and the client’s passion for horses, Sara Cosgrove Studio meticulously sourced artwork and accessories, even designing custom wallpaper to encapsulate the equestrian theme. The result was a seamless blend of tradition and modernity, ensuring The Horse and Jockey Hotel remains a beloved refuge for travellers.
