SZ Design’s creation of Fleur de Ville is an exquisite blend of historic elegance and modern innovation, offering a poetic and timeless experience. Their approach, “Fragments in Time,” intertwines past and present, immersing guests in the hotel’s rich history and contemporary significance. Located in the heart of Brussels, Fleur de Ville’s neo-classical and Italian neo-renaissance architecture by Henri Beyaert and Alban Chambon provided a rich canvas for SZ Design. They embraced and reinterpreted the building’s historic elements, evoking nostalgia and sparking curiosity.

The design layers colours, textures, light, and materials to create a harmonious yet dynamic environment. Each area, from the foyer to the restaurant, reflects different aspects of the building’s history and its reinterpretation. For instance, the reception desk, inspired by an old bee hive sketch, symbolizes meticulous craftsmanship and attention to detail. Light fixtures blend vintage charm with contemporary aesthetics, and fabrics embrace both the old and new. Original mouldings were conserved and restored, preserving intricate historical details.

SZ Design’s vision was to offer guests a unique and exclusive stay, exploring the building’s history and contemporary relevance. The reception area epitomises this blend of heritage and eclectic elements, creating a seamless integration of past and future. The design respects the original architecture while introducing new principles, creating a cohesive and captivating environment.

Fleur de Ville integrates harmoniously into Brussels’ urban fabric, honoring the city’s architectural heritage and its central location near landmarks like Grand Place. SZ Design’s commitment to craftsmanship, historical authenticity, and creating spaces that tell a story is evident in every detail, making Fleur de Ville a unique and memorable experience for guests.
