Hopkins Architects has unveiled its design for a world-class 21st-century hotel and residences in the heart of Belgravia, London. The prestigious project, situated on a prominent site facing Wellington Arch and overlooking three Royal Parks and Buckingham Palace, marks The Peninsula’s foray into the London hospitality scene.

Tasked with creating an exceptional establishment that reflects The Peninsula’s international brand values, Hopkins Architects drew inspiration from the Palazzo Farnese in Rome. The resulting ‘four square’ building design features streets on either side, a central courtyard, and a configuration of 190 guest rooms and 26 residential apartments.

The ground-level entrance boasts an elegant double-height lobby strategically positioned to provide stunning views of Hyde Park Corner. A tranquil central courtyard, adorned with trees and greenery, enhances the sense of luxury and calm for guests and visitors. Curvilinear canopies add a touch of sophistication, softly illuminated at night to announce The Peninsula’s presence.

As the building rises, it gracefully sets back to create planted terraces, external spaces, and a bar and restaurant area offering picturesque views of Hyde Park. The structure extends five floors below ground, housing a spectacular double-height ballroom, the Peninsula Spa and Wellness Centre, two swimming pools, facilities for the residences, and parking.

Collaborating closely with The Peninsula team, consultants, and international craftspeople, Hopkins Architects ensured meticulous coordination for a complex program. The design seamlessly integrates the functional requirements with the concept of a bespoke, hand-made building that exudes luxury. Four vertical cores efficiently handle servicing for the upper floors, while strategic placement of kitchens and plant rooms ensures the smooth day-to-day operation of the hotel. The meticulous attention to detail and the seamless blending of functionality and luxury underscore the commitment to creating a welcoming and memorable experience for residents and guests alike.
