At Burj Al Arab, KIRA is brought to life by the design studio Verhaal, whose concept unites Mediterranean warmth with Asian tranquillity. Situated in the heart of Marsa Al Arab, KIRA unfolds as a narrative experience inspired by the silver dollar plant. This delicate, translucent botanical, native to both regions, guided the tone, texture and palette of the interiors.

Verhaal used natural light, tactile finishes and sculptural form to shape a space that feels soulful and considered. Guests arrive through a glowing threshold of handwoven golden tapestry and sun-carved timber panels. Inside, a softly tiered dining room reflects the terraced landscapes of the Mediterranean. The palette features butter yellow, terracotta and natural stone, creating an atmosphere of quiet connection.

Lighting was crafted to move gently across curved surfaces, forming a rhythm of shadow and light. Sculptural works by Olivia Cognet and reflective details by Kelly Wearstler contribute to a sense of emotional depth. Verhaal subtly referenced the Japanese art of Kintsugi through artisanal detailing that embraces imperfection and craft.

Collaboration with specialist makers was central to the project’s success. The marble flooring and sculptural ceiling mirror natural patterns, evoking water and canopy. Mosaic and plaster finishes were meticulously refined to achieve softness and movement. A reimagined chandelier above the bar adds a faceted glow while respecting budget constraints.

Through careful curation, custom materials and layered craftsmanship, Verhaal created a space that feels both rooted and elevated. KIRA is a poetic reflection of culture, nature and quiet beauty.
