Originally envisioned as a standard hotel gym renovation, this project—designed by the acclaimed interior design firm DIALOG—evolved into the creation of a comprehensive wellness hub that redefines the traditional fitness experience. Located within a landmark hotel in downtown Toronto, the space was reimagined to reflect the property’s prestigious legacy while responding to the evolving expectations of today’s wellness-conscious guest.

The existing gym had become outdated and disconnected from the hotel’s refined brand identity. DIALOG was tasked with the challenge of transforming this small and uninspired facility into a luxurious, forward-thinking sanctuary. The goal was not only to enhance functionality but to embed wellness as an integral part of the guest journey—blending active and passive wellness elements into a seamless, guest-centred experience.

Situated above a high-traffic ballroom, the project presented significant acoustic and structural challenges, which were addressed through thoughtful design strategies such as soundproofed flooring. Drawing inspiration from the hotel’s Art Deco heritage, DIALOG’s design evokes scale, strength, and elegance through thick, sculptural lines, mirrored detailing, and rich materials. A bold colour palette—featuring tones such as Hermès orange and Jaguar green—reinforces the space’s dynamic yet refined character.

The facility is thoughtfully divided into specialized zones for cardio, strength, and functional training, and includes a private Peloton room and dedicated treatment spaces for on-call therapists. The result is a space that harmonizes luxury, performance, and sustainability, aligning with the hotel’s decarbonization goals.

Ultimately, the transformation exemplifies how design can foster holistic well-being—redefining fitness as an elevated, immersive experience that nurtures both body and mind.
