1587 Prime is a contemporary American steakhouse that seamlessly blends sophistication with theatricality, capturing the dynamic spirit and civic pride of Kansas City. Conceived as more than a dining destination, the restaurant offers an immersive experience that celebrates the city’s deep-rooted passion for sport, culture, and hospitality.

Designed by The Johnson Studio at Cooper Carry, in collaboration with Kansas City Chiefs players Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce, the project reinterprets the language of American football through the refined lens of fine dining. The guest journey begins with a dramatic entry sequence that evokes the anticipation of players emerging from the tunnel onto the field. This experience culminates in a striking, illuminated refrigerated meat display—symbolically positioned as the “light at the end of the tunnel”—before opening into a vibrant, welcoming dining environment.

Throughout the interiors, a carefully curated palette of red, white, and gold references the Kansas City Chiefs, grounding the design firmly in its local context. Subtle architectural and material details—including brass floor inlays reminiscent of yard markers, banquette upholstery inspired by the grid of the field, and millwork incorporating deconstructed football forms—offer layered moments of discovery without feeling overtly themed.

At the heart of the restaurant, a sweeping 20-seat bar and integrated live music stage anchor the space, fostering energy and social engagement. A glowing grand staircase leads to the upper-level dining areas, where private and semi-private rooms feature playbook-inspired tile inlays and a sculptural chandelier referencing a “flag on the play.”

Entertainment and comfort are thoughtfully balanced through the integration of live music, an open kitchen that introduces movement and theater, and spatial planning that keeps guests visually and emotionally connected. Together, these elements create a bold yet refined steakhouse experience that is immersive, engaging, and unmistakably Kansas City.
