Ruth Arad Design led the transformation of Daroma Hotel, shaping a distinctive desert hospitality experience rooted in the unique setting of Ramon Crater. Responding to its layered topography, geological formations and monochromatic palette, the studio developed a design that immerses guests in both landscape and narrative, while maintaining the building’s original volumetric form.

Central to the concept is an integrated African design layer, which introduces warmth and cultural richness through ethnic textiles, handcrafted objects and lodge inspired elements. This is balanced carefully against the simplicity of the desert context, creating a cohesive and tactile environment. Guest rooms reflect this approach through sandy tones, Moroccan tiles, handmade curtains and custom furniture, while corten steel niches and resin shower details demonstrate precise, small scale interventions that respond to the constraints of the existing industrial structure.

Public spaces extend the storytelling through meteor inspired ceiling motifs, created using CNC metalwork, and lighting that simulates moonlight, reinforcing Ramon Crater’s identity as a UNESCO recognised Starlight Reserve. Materials such as corten steel, artisanal joinery and handcrafted textiles create a layered and authentic material palette that connects interiors with the surrounding environment.

The project highlights Ruth Arad Design’s ability to combine contextual sensitivity with creative problem solving. Working in close collaboration with Ari Shealtiel, the studio delivered a cohesive vision that integrates architecture, interiors and craftsmanship. The result is an immersive and memorable destination that connects guests to nature, culture and the desert sky, while demonstrating the power of thoughtful, experience driven design.
