OITOEMPONTO’s work at the Four Seasons Hotel Ritz Lisbon represents a refined balance between modernity, decorative luxury and historical continuity, honouring a landmark with more than 60 years of legacy. Built in the mid 1950s and located in the heart of Lisbon, the hotel is a luxury icon with panoramic views over Eduardo VII Park and the city’s historic landscape. The studio approached the project with a clear intention to respect the building’s midcentury identity while aligning it with the contemporary standards and international prestige of the Four Seasons brand.

The scope of the renovation was extensive, covering all 289 rooms and suites, as well as the landings and corridors across the ten bedroom floors. OITOEMPONTO also reimagined several key shared spaces, including the Fundação Lounge on the sixth floor, the co working and meeting lounge on the eleventh floor, and the barber shop on the ground floor. Across all areas, the focus was on enhancing comfort and style while restoring the hotel’s formal and timeless modernity.

Within the bedrooms, original period furniture was carefully reworked rather than replaced. Proportions were adjusted to meet present day needs, with chests of drawers repurposed as bedside tables and armchairs given greater volume. The colour palette draws directly from the 1960s, combining beige, grey, tobacco and white with subtle accents of ochre, brick and duck blue. Blond wood was favoured throughout, with oak used for headboards and varnished oak for desks and pedestal tables.

In the corridors, the same approach continues, featuring a vintage wall lamp model repeated for a theatrical effect, walls clad in a textile reminiscent of Japanese straw, and carpets with abstract patterns inspired by traditional Portuguese calçada paving.
