GG&GRACE INTERNATIONAL conceived the arrival experience for Locanda Luxury Hotel as a refined interpretation of 1950s and 1960s Egyptian cinema and music, expressed through contemporary luxury and understated elegance. The brief centred on shaping a distinctive first impression that celebrates Egyptian cultural identity through a modern hospitality lens, reimagining nostalgia in a sophisticated manner while avoiding pastiche and prioritising emotional storytelling.

Reception and lounge areas were envisioned as cinematic environments that convey warmth, familiarity and quiet elegance. Mid century influences are balanced with current hospitality standards to create spaces that feel both timeless and relevant. A curated palette of muted plums, dusty rose, warm neutrals and soft metallic accents establishes an intimate atmosphere, while layered lighting builds depth and mood.

Local craftsmanship played a central role. Furniture, joinery and decorative elements were sourced and produced in Egypt, supporting regional artisans and reinforcing authenticity. Architectural arches subtly reference historic Cairo, while vintage radios, bespoke artwork and abstract interpretations of classic Egyptian film posters embed cultural narrative without overwhelming the interior.

Rather than literal references, the design relies on suggestion and abstraction to honour icons such as Umm Kulthum and the era’s cinematic legacy. Rich texture, from soft upholstery to refined stone, warm wood tones and artisanal metal details, enhances the tactile experience.

In Marassi, the scheme complements its coastal luxury context through relaxed elegance and inviting scale, offering a culturally grounded counterpoint to the modern resort setting while demonstrating how local narratives can achieve international relevance and lasting appeal.
