Project Name: Boucan
Location: St. Lucia
Interior Designer: Terry Moore Design
Architect: Phil Buckley – Hotel Chocolat
Completion: 2013

Bare Foot Luxury: Boucan is cool and understated with 18 lodges, a restaurant and infinity pool and set in the heart of a working cacao plantation. Starting with converting some original cacao storage sheds into lodges the brief was to retain the authenticity and evolve a group of lodges retaining the character of the original.

The lodges were to be set around a contemporary structure housing a fine dining restaurant, bar and infinity pool overlooking the world heritage site of the famous Pitons. The design uses simple elements made by local craftsmen together with wood and stone from the plantation. The result is a simple and relaxed feel but with an international quality cuisine environment. The key aspects of the project are the simple slatted wood screen theme, the pool, and the blending of the structures into the plantation. The design works well because it has a chilled Zen like atmosphere. It is contemporary and not typical of the area.
