Project Name: Nassim Hill Heritage Residence

Location: Singapore

Date Completed: 2019

Interior Designer: MFD

Soft modernity, glamour and heritage details marry beautifully in this turn of the century residence, located in Singapore’s most exclusive district. Inspired by the lofty volumes, sweeping walls of windows and serene tropical vistas, the goal was to create a rejuvenating oasis in the heart of a dense metropolis. A fresh, neutral palette, expressed in both the interior architecture as well as the furnishings, acts as the perfect frame to the lush garden views and a curated collection of modern art, furnishings and antiques, collected from Asia to Africa and Europe.

An open plan approach allows for pleasing flow and gently guides the eye towards the expansive terraces, ensuring continuity from the indoor spaces to the outdoor. Bleached walnut flooring, rich marbles and sumptuous fabrics combined with organic finishes from lacquer to bamboo, create a sense of wellness and a calm escape from the city’s bustling centre, just blocks away. Special care was given to the composition of contemporary artworks and modern furnishings with exquisite antiques and exotic accents and artefacts, giving the residence an unmistakable international flair and sense of place.

The project shows how success can be achieved by having a strong concept inspiration and a clear narrative driven by specific site conditions. The neutral palette acts as the perfect canvas to display the curated array of modern furnishings, antiques pieces from Asia to Europe and an impressive art collection, as well as the incredible tropical views, which drove the layout as well as selection of colour and materials.

The views drove all aspects of the design from opening up the interior architecture to the flowing layouts and the colour and material direction.  By opening up the spaces and applying a clean design approach and neutral palette, the deep colours and textures of the garden views are highlighted.

Many custom pieces were commissioned for the residence to support the colour palette and bring a regional touch and sense of place, including modern rattan settees and a repurposed antique Chinese cabinet for the master vanity. Blown glass lamps and accessories from the Michael Fiebrich Design Collection add an international touch to the glamorous interior.
