Prestige Audio

Prestige Audio have been shortlisted for Home Cinema Award in The International Design and Architecture Awards 2023.
The client for this project, Riverstone Living, has the aim of creating the finest retirement living developments in London. The company had already completed an award-winning project and wanted to maintain this momentum with its next project Riverside Fulham and re-commissioned Prestige Audio to create a no compromise high-performance 20-seater home cinema especially adapted to the needs of the residents.

The team at Prestige Audio specified, installed, and maintain a Barco Balder Cinemascope Laser Projector, a 5M Screen Research fixed acoustically transparent 2.37:1 projection screen and fully immersive surround sound package from AV brands Anthem and Paradigm to deliver the performance required to a discerning group of residents. As well as a world-class home cinema, the space also had to be able to accommodate the needs of those using hearing devices. A specially adapted Sennheiser system allows users to utilize their smart devices to access a special audio track they can listen to on their own headphones. This feed promotes clear dialogue and presents an experience tuned to those living with hearing loss.

The room also needed to be able to serve as a high-quality presentation theatre and lecture hall, the team specified a Shure Microphone and transmitter system to accommodate this. All of the systems needed to be intuitive and easy to use for the residents and staff, so Prestige Audio developed a custom software-controlled user interface for them.
Prestige Audio’s role was to design the space to ensure the room was the perfect backdrop/shell to accommodate the intended systems and performance levels required. The team provided detailed plans to the architect and building contractors to guarantee that when it came to the fit-out stage, all the speakers could be positioned correctly, doors would not be placed in areas that would compromise performance and the height of the room allowed for unobstructed views of the screen in any seat. The plans also included the creation of a separate ‘projectionist room’ to house the equipment rack for ease of maintenance and provide space for the high-performance projector promoting optimal performance.

Prestige Audio worked very closely and successfully with Bowler James Brindley, the interior design company also working on the project. The cinema fits perfectly with the rest of the building on an aesthetic and sound reproduction level due to this close working relationship. The cinema has its own character, but is also part of the wider vision for the building as a whole.
