James Wellesley

James Wellesley has completed a bespoke joinery project that has transformed a previously characterless Knightsbridge townhouse into a richly detailed jewel box residence. Designed in partnership with leading interior designer Paolo Moschino, the four storey home is an immersive celebration of British craftsmanship, materiality and artisanal skill. James Wellesley was brought into the project early, allowing bold design ideas to be translated into joinery that feels effortless at first glance yet reveals its depth slowly over time.

The brief centred on creating interiors with soul, where individuality, craft and material presence carry as much importance as architecture itself. James Wellesley responded with an extraordinary level of detailing, from antique bronze verre églomisé panels in the kitchen to hand finished ebony columns and book matched marble bathrooms. Cabinetry throughout the house is finished with decorative and exotic veneers, paired with tailored British made hardware that reinforces the sense of refinement and permanence.

Every element of joinery was produced entirely in the UK across James Wellesley’s workshops in the Home Counties. The bespoke kitchen features floor to ceiling units that combine visual drama with precision craftsmanship, while the walk in wardrobes are individually designed for each room, reflecting the specific character and use of each space. Even the radiator covers were treated as design features, crafted uniquely for their setting rather than concealed as afterthoughts.

James Wellesley’s approach extended to hidden details that add moments of surprise, such as discreet hallway bars and subtle joinery interventions that elevate everyday movement through the house. The ability of James Wellesley to combine fine marble, intricate metalwork and rare woods with absolute precision allowed the interiors to achieve a level of craftsmanship few ateliers can deliver. The result is a townhouse that feels deeply personal, richly layered and unmistakably British in its execution.
