Julia Filippova Design takes inspiration from the coastal beauty of Norway and the distinctive Tjeld bird, or oystercatcher, beloved by Norwegians. This bird, often found along shores and water bodies, is central to the bar’s theme. Using natural materials like marble, wood, and shiny metal, the bar evokes a coastal atmosphere, with smooth lines reminiscent of oyster shells. Bright lamps symbolising the bird’s watchful eyes reflect the attentive staff.

The International Hotel & Property Awards 2025
Ergonomics and smart space planning are at the heart of this design. The bar station, centrally located, allows for efficient staff movement and enhanced guest interaction. A structural column, a challenge due to its position, is transformed into a symbolic representation of the Tjeld’s red beak, splitting the bar into cocktail and oyster stations.
Natural clay plaster, made from unfired clays, minerals, and herbs, adorns the walls, while noise is mitigated with eco-friendly acoustic panels. Recycled plastic from Norwegian nature is used for cocktail coasters, aligning with the eco-conscious ethos of the design. Practical details, like a knee-level button for hands-free access to the staff room, further enhance functionality.
The bar harmonises with Tjuvholmen’s waterfront setting, blending modern technology with natural aesthetics. Julia Filippova’s personal touch is evident in hand-painted walls and stone textures, as well as a unique artisan-crafted lamp above the bar, completing this nature-inspired, functional, and eco-friendly space.
