Shortlisted: Private Jet Design - Concept

The International Yacht & Aviation Awards 2026

Matteo Prola

Matteo Prola has revealed Project G-EXRS, a radical reimagining of the Bombardier Global Express that challenges conventional notions of private aviation through a bold interplay of exterior identity and interior materiality.

Conceived as an ecosystem of “absolute sensory isolation”, the concept departs from traditional aviation design codes to create a highly controlled, immersive environment tailored to an elite clientele. Rather than prioritising lightness or visual neutrality, the project introduces a deliberate sense of weight and permanence, both externally and within the cabin.

The aircraft’s bespoke livery is central to this vision. A dark brown and champagne gradient replaces the standard white fuselage typically associated with private jets, creating a striking architectural presence. On the ground, the lighter champagne tones visually anchor the aircraft to its surroundings, while in flight, the darker upper surfaces project a strong, monolithic silhouette against the sky. This intentional contrast establishes a sense of dominance rather than assimilation within its environment.

Inside, the concept continues this narrative through an uncompromising use of dense, tactile materials. Solid copper and substantial bronze finishes define the cabin, introducing a level of physical and visual weight rarely seen in aviation interiors. These elements are carefully orchestrated to counter the inherent impermanence of flight, transforming the cabin into what Prola describes as a “grounded stronghold”.

The design approach moves beyond decoration, focusing instead on psychological impact and spatial authority. By bridging high-performance aeronautical engineering with heavy, terrestrial materiality, the project creates an environment that prioritises privacy, control and a sense of permanence. The cabin effectively acts as a barrier to the outside world, replacing the transient nature of air travel with a curated, stable atmosphere.

Project G-EXRS ultimately represents a shift in how private aviation interiors can be conceived. Through its assertive exterior and materially dense interior, Matteo Prola’s concept redefines the relationship between aircraft, environment and occupant, offering a vision of flight where power is expressed not through lightness, but through presence and control.
