The International Design & Architecture Awards 2026
Working closely with the client, Olga Ashby Interiors developed the scheme around a chequered pool design that had originally inspired the homeowner during international travels. Rather than directly replicating the concept, the studio reinterpreted it in a way that felt tailored to the architecture and scale of the Surrey property. The pool itself became the visual centrepiece of the design, setting the tone for a sophisticated environment defined by balance, texture and craftsmanship.
To enhance the spatial experience, Olga Ashby Interiors introduced a bespoke ceiling installation that draws the eye upward and adds a sculptural quality to the room. This intervention helps unify the expansive interior while reinforcing the connection between the architecture and the surrounding landscape. Soft drapery was layered throughout the space to introduce movement and warmth, tempering the clean architectural lines and creating a more relaxed atmosphere.
Lighting also played a central role in shaping the final design. Alabaster fixtures cast a gentle glow across the pool area, contributing to a serene and welcoming ambience that shifts naturally throughout the day. Stone detailing was carefully integrated into the benches and sauna architraves, grounding the palette with tactile richness and a sense of permanence.
Olga Ashby Interiors approached the project with a focus on harmony between elegance and comfort. The restrained material palette, combined with carefully considered architectural interventions, allows the pool area to function as both a luxurious entertaining space and a private sanctuary. The result is a refined wellness environment that captures the calm sophistication of contemporary residential design while maintaining a strong connection to the client’s original inspiration.
