The Shell Restaurant feels like a natural extension of its surroundings—a handcrafted expression of coastal life. It reflects Pablo Luna Studio’s vision of architecture as an immersive, sustainable experience, where form, craftsmanship, and the natural world exist in perfect harmony.
The Shell Restaurant is an open-air bamboo structure designed by Pablo Luna Studio to celebrate the sea, sustainability, and the spirit of place. Located on the Nusa Penida coastline, the restaurant is inspired by the form of a giant clamshell—protective, elegant, and deeply rooted in nature. It emerges organically from the land, blending architecture with its coastal surroundings.
Built entirely by hand using bamboo and locally sourced materials, the structure is both sculptural and functional. Tree-like columns support an undulating roof, filtering sunlight and ocean breezes while framing views of the sea. The open layout invites sensory immersion, with filtered light dancing across bamboo textures and the sound of waves creating a constant backdrop.
