Anna Hayman introduces the Bibana, a velvet design suitably used as a furnishing fabric. The design has been produced from an original linocut, in keeping with all Anna Hayman’s prints. The Bibana design work particularly well for velvet, as the design was originally printed in gold on black. As the velvet has a slight shimmer, it digitally replicated the metallic look to good effect.

The fabric is of a medium weight and ideal for a number of interior projects, including lampshades, curtaining, light upholstery and luxury cushions. The palette, being black, gold and caramel, has a restful quality while remaining interesting and perfect for a bedroom setting or dramatic living space. In terms of trends, it is in line with the dark interiors trend box, and also lends itself to the Art Deco period design is currently enjoying. There are William Morris and Biba influences within Bibana, and leans into the 70’s trend design will be approaching next Summer.

When Anna Hayman created the design, the response happened very quickly, and within a very directly expressive way, and having such a positive reaction from social media. The Bibana print has also been manufactured as a wallcovering. The two textures of fabric and wallcovering are interesting when layered together. The Bibana design has recently been made into a satin fabric with long crocheted black tassels and used to create lampshades, available at Rockett St George. This design is also to be taken further to create large drum light shades and ruched edged cushions.
