Tell us a little about your background in design:
As founder and Principal Designer of Alisha Taylor Interiors, a luxury residential interior design firm in the US, we specialize in custom new construction and large scale remodels throughout Arizona and beyond. With more than two decades of experience in the design industry, I have been honored to be part of many beautiful projects that showcase timeless architecture, interiors, and intentional everyday living.

My passion for learning landed me at Northern Arizona University in the US, where I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Interior Design. Originally pursuing civil engineering, I discovered the interior design program while walking past a CAD lab filled with floor plans and architectural drawings. It was a defining moment that redirected my career and confirmed the path I was meant to pursue.

How would you describe your personal design style?:
My design style is rooted in timeless architecture, thoughtful craftsmanship, and creating homes that feel deeply personal to the families who live in them. Rather than following trends, I draw inspiration from classic European and American architecture, layering natural materials, rich textures and custom details. Every project begins with the architecture, ensuring the interiors feel authentic to the home rather than applied afterward. I believe luxury is found in exceptional proportions, intentional functionality, and meticulous attention to detail, resulting in spaces that are both refined and effortlessly livable. My goal is always to create homes that feel as beautiful decades from now as they do the day they are completed.

Where does your design inspiration come from?:
My design inspiration begins with architecture. I am endlessly inspired by the timeless proportions and craftsmanship found in historic European estates, Mediterranean villas, English country homes, and classic American architecture. Travel has taught me to appreciate how homes tell the story of their place and the people who inhabit them, whether through centuries old stonework, handcrafted millwork, or the quiet beauty of natural materials that age gracefully over time. I also find inspiration in the Arizona landscape, where the colors, textures, and light influence the way I approach every project. Above all, my greatest inspiration comes from my clients. Understanding how they gather, celebrate, recharge, and create memories allows me to design homes that are not only beautiful, but deeply personal and uniquely their own.

In what direction do you feel that design is moving towards in a general sense?:
In an era of increasing automation and endless duplication, authentic custom design created through personal relationships and creative collaboration will become more valuable than ever. As technology and artificial intelligence continue to reshape the design industry, I believe the future of luxury lies in greater personalization, individuality, and human connection. While technology can improve efficiency, it can never replace the insight gained from truly understanding how a client lives, gathers, and experiences their home. The most meaningful luxury will be thoughtfully tailored design that reflects a family’s unique lifestyle, values, and story.

Name five key themes to consider when approaching design in the future. :
1. Design memories not just spaces.
2. Let beautiful architecture take the lead
3. Luxury is deeply personal
4. Details matter
5. Collaborative Design

If you could offer one piece of advice when it comes to designing, what would it be?:
Design for the life our clients want to live not to what we or they see online. Get to know our clients in such a way that we are designing more than a home we are designing their lifestyle and future memories.

How important are The International Design & Architecture Awards?:
As newcomers to the International Design & Architecture Awards, we are incredibly honored to be recognized in our rookie year. We see these awards as an important part of the global design community because they celebrate excellence that transcends geography, style, and market. They provide an opportunity for designers from around the world to share ideas, learn from one another, and collectively elevate the profession. To be included among such talented firms is both a privilege and an inspiration, and we are grateful for the opportunity to contribute to this worldwide conversation about exceptional design.

What projects are you currently working on?:
We are currently working on more than a dozen new construction large luxury custom home projects with top builders and architects throughout the southwest region of the US.

What was your favourite project to work on and why?:
Our favorite projects are custom luxury new builds because they begin with a blank canvas and evolve through true collaboration. There is something incredibly personal about guiding a family through the creation of a home that is uniquely theirs. Working hand in hand with the client, architect, builder, and talented craftsmen from the earliest stages allows every detail to be thoughtfully considered and seamlessly integrated. Together, we are creating far more than a beautiful house. We are creating the backdrop for a family’s life, where memories will be made for generations to come.

What was your most challenging project to work on and why?:
One of our most challenging and rewarding projects was a custom home built into the side of an Arizona mountainside, overlooking the vast Sonoran Desert. While we had the privilege of collaborating with an exceptional architect and builder, it quickly became clear that Mother Nature was the true lead designer. The sweeping desert vistas demanded that every architectural and interior design decision honor the landscape rather than compete with it. Our role was to carefully balance the home’s scale, materials, and interiors so they blended naturally into the hillside while drawing every eye outward to the breathtaking views. The result was a home where the architecture, interiors, and surrounding desert exist in harmony, creating an experience that invites everyone inside to immediately connect with the beauty beyond its walls.

Which products/services could you not live without when designing? E.g. Lighting companies, furniture companies:
We could not do what we do without our trusted vendor partners and product specialists. Our tile, stone, plumbing, and lighting representatives bring an incredible depth of knowledge that is essential to every project. From introducing new products and innovations to providing technical expertise and helping solve complex design challenges, they become an extension of our design team. Their insight allows us to make informed decisions that balance beauty, performance, and functionality, ensuring every detail contributes to the overall success of the home. Great design is never created in isolation, and we are grateful for the talented professionals who collaborate with us every step of the way.

What are your aims and goals for the next twelve months?:
Our goal over the next twelve months is to continue creating highly personalized, timeless homes while thoughtfully embracing technology that enhances our process. We see AI as a powerful tool behind the scenes, helping streamline administrative tasks, research, and internal workflows so our team can dedicate more time to what matters most: creativity, collaboration, and our clients. By gaining an even deeper understanding of how our clients live, gather, and envision their future, we can create homes that are not only beautiful, but truly reflective of their lives. We believe the future of luxury design is not less human, but more human.

Your favourite holiday destination?:
Santa Barbara, California is my favorite vacation destination because it perfectly blends everything I love: timeless architecture, beautiful beaches, exceptional food, charming shopping, and endless design inspiration. Every street seems to tell a story through its Spanish Colonial architecture, lush landscapes, and thoughtfully preserved character. It’s a place where I can relax and recharge while continually discovering new ideas that influence my work. For me, Santa Barbara is the perfect balance of beauty, creativity, and effortless coastal living.

Your favourite hotel, restaurant? :
Hotel: Santa Monica Proper Hotel
Restaurant: Pyro in Scottsdale, AZ

Your favourite book? :
E-Myth Revisited by Michael Gerber

Your favourite food and drink? :
Food: My favorite food is a perfectly cooked filet mignon. Whether enjoyed at a favorite steakhouse or shared during a special dinner with family and friends, it’s the meal I look forward to most. Simple, classic, and timeless, a great filet never goes out of style.
Drink: Guilty pleasure: Mountain Dew

Your favourite way to spend an afternoon?:
My favorite way to spend an afternoon is exploring a beautiful place that inspires creativity. Whether I’m wandering through a charming neighborhood filled with timeless architecture, browsing thoughtfully curated boutiques, enjoying a leisurely lunch outdoors, or walking along the beach, I love slowing down and noticing the details. The best afternoons are shared with family or close friends, where great conversation, beautiful surroundings, and a sense of discovery all come together.

If you weren’t in this sector, what would your alternative profession be?:
If I weren’t an interior designer, I would love to teach high school math. I’ve always enjoyed mathematics, and I would find great fulfillment in helping students build confidence while showing them how math applies to everyday life. Whether through architecture, design, construction, or business, math is woven into so many real-world experiences. I would love to inspire students to see it not just as a subject in the classroom, but as a practical and creative tool that opens doors to endless possibilities.

Anything else interesting? :
I am a proud grandma to three adorable grandsons who remind me to slow down and appreciate life’s simplest moments. They encourage me to stop on the sidewalk to watch the ants, smell the flowers, and see the world through curious eyes. In a profession that often moves at a fast pace, they are a beautiful reminder that joy is found in the little things, and that perspective is a gift I carry with me into both life and design.
