Aviation Edition

Name: Tamara Codor
Company Name: Aviation Edition
Position Within Company: Founder and lead designer

Tell us a little about the company background:
The inspiration for Aviation Edition was born when a residential design client tasked us with developing mood boards for their fleet of managed charter jets. We quickly discovered that many of the aircraft owners were being handed a stack of FAA-approved swatches by an upholsterer and left to make significant design decisions on their own.
For a luxury asset, this felt fundamentally misaligned.

Founder and lead designer Tamara Codor began a two-year deep dive, studying the aviation refurbishment market, FAA material requirements, and the operational realities of MROs and completion centers. Aviation Edition was created to streamline, white-glove design services specifically for the secondary-market and refurbishment space—bringing a new take for clientele that are underserved.

How does your company approach each project from concept to completion?:
Drawing from years of residential experience, Tamara has honed the skill of translating abstract design language into reality. When approaching the contained environment of a jet cabin, we have developed a system called MOODS—a range of curated atmospheres that help clients articulate what they want to feel inside their aircraft. Rather than starting with disconnected swatches, we begin with a defined mood direction. This creates a shared language and significantly streamlines decision-making. After the mood is set, we work through a detailed checklist of customizable elements, making it very clear and easy for the client to understand what is possible. In this process we help curate the overall environment, down to the soft goods accessories, galleyware, and toiletries.

We are acutely aware of the time and budget constraints within the refurbishment market. All materials are FAA-approvable and typically in stock unless a client opts for custom development. Our goal is to prevent delays while maintaining design integrity.

Realistic renderings are critical to our workflow. Using Expressa Configurator by KiP Creative, we present aircraft-specific renderings with selected materials accurately shown in situ. Once approved, we collaborate closely with MROs and completion centers to ensure flawless execution.

Where inspires your company in this sector?:
Aviation is the ultimate exercise in disciplined design.
As a classically trained artist, Tamara is deeply inspired by the challenge of the composition of a contained space. In an aircraft cabin, every sightline matters. Every material must justify its presence. Every decision must contribute to a cohesive whole.
The constraints elevate the work. The cabin becomes a carefully orchestrated environment—where texture, color, proportion, and reflection are considered from every angle.

In what direction do you feel that your projects are moving towards in a general sense?:
Our mission is to bring a white-glove luxury design experience—paired with operational efficiency—to the secondary and refurbishment market.
We see growing demand from owners and operators who want their aircraft to feel intentional and elevated, without extending downtime. Our work continues to move toward refined, curated solutions that balance speed, compliance, and high design.

Name five key themes to consider when approaching projects in the future. :
Establishing a clearly defined MOODand aesthetic direction
Providing accurate, aircraft-specific renderings
Consistent awareness of timeline and budget constraints
Selecting FAA-compliant materials that meet both aesthetic and performance standards
Maintaining clear, collaborative communication with MROs and craftspeople

If your company could offer one piece of advice when it comes to projects, what would it be?:
Develop a strong understanding of FAA compliance early in the design process. When you understand what makes a material certifiable, you expand your sourcing options significantly beyond traditional aviation offerings—without compromising safety or timeline.
How important are The International Yacht & Aviation Awards? : Aviation Edition is still a very young company and visibility is incredibly valuable. The International Yacht & Aviation Awards offer a unique platform for industry exposure and peer recognition.
The voting structure encourages engagement across the sector, allowing emerging firms like ours to connect with established professionals. We are honored to participate and excited about the relationships formed through the process.

What projects are you currently working on?:
One of our earliest projects was with a client who arrived with a bin of aviation fabric swatches they had received from their MRO and an extremely tight timeline. They were left to their own devices to make major design decisions. That experience crystallized our mission.
It highlighted how often owners are left to navigate complex design decisions alone. It reinforced our belief that refurbishment projects deserve the same level of thoughtful design service as high-end residential or yacht interiors—and that efficiency and luxury do not have to be mutually exclusive.

What was one of your company’s key projects to work on and why?:
Our focus is on strengthening strategic industry partnerships—with MROs, brokers, management companies, and charter operators.
Our goal is to become the trusted design resource for industry insiders and owners, that enhances the client experience while making the back-of-house process smoother and more efficient. We are building a collaborative ecosystem where elevated design supports operational excellence.

Which products/services could you not live without when completing projects?:
Expressa Configurator by KiP Creative has become integral to our workflow. The platform allows us to generate hyper-realistic renderings of specific aircraft models with selected materials applied accurately.
Beyond impressing clients, it is a powerful internal design tool. It enables us to evaluate scale, pattern, and color relationships in context before final approvals, significantly reducing uncertainty.

What are your company’s aims and goals for the next twelve months?:
Our focus is on strengthening strategic industry partnerships—with MROs, brokers, management companies, and charter operators.
Our goal is to become the trusted design resource for industry insiders and owners, that enhances the client experience while making the back-of-house process smoother and more efficient. We are building a collaborative ecosystem where elevated design supports operational excellence.
