Tell us a little about your background in design:
Pranvera Vula founded her own practice, VULA ID, in 2022 on the back of over two decades working globally in architecture and design. The first project she completed with VULA ID was the highest penthouse in Oslo, Norway, which gained significant recognition in the international design press, including a cover story in Olise Magazine. Pranvera works with individuals to create bespoke, extraordinary architectural expressions.

Before VULA ID, Pranvera was Director and Partner at one of the leading international architecture practices for over a decade, overseeing projects ranging in size from 5,000 to 300,000 square feet. Her roster of clients included some of the world’s most recognised blue chip names.

Pranvera’s journey in architecture began from the age of six, when her childhood playground was her father’s atelier, a place where she first gleaned a feeling for the meaning of architecture, space and art. As an architect himself, Pranvera’s father shared his passion with his daughters, taking his family to explore monuments, buildings, and together reviewing design books from all over the world.

At 16 Pranvera moved to London to begin school studies, where art was a major focus, later studying Interior Design and Technology at Metropolitan University. Following her longtime dream to work in New York, Pranvera’s next step was to do just that, moving to Manhattan to gain her first work experience in an architectural and design group.

How would you describe your personal design style?
Pranvera’s personal design style is rooted in a philosophy that, in her words, “rejects superficial trends, and instead focuses on the profound impact a well-designed space can have on a person’s mental and physical well-being.” For Pranvera, each project is a deeply personalised journey, considering the unique physiology and psychology of the individuals who will occupy the space.

Where does your design inspiration come from?
Individuals and their view of the world, be that cultural or geographic. I create environments for individuals, therefore most importantly the space should reflect who they are. Learning about the individuals and understanding their inspirations drives my own creative expression.

In what direction do you feel that design is moving towards in a general sense?
Architecture and interior design are undergoing shifts that echo broader cultural and technological integration, all while reintroducing warmth and individuality. The momentum of regenerative architecture is driving design to be considerate and evolve with the topography, climate and the integration of cultures. Environments that are adaptable with change and provide not only for living but also for working, playing, entertaining. Immersive environments that evoke emotion and awaken the senses.

Name five key themes to consider when approaching design in the future. :
– Japandi is a theme we’re hearing about a lot recently. The simplicity and tactile nature of this theme, with biophilic integration, provides a zen-like space and connection with nature.
– Wellness focused spaces with circadian rhythm lighting, acoustically planned for purpose.
– Quiet Luxury, the understated luxury where creativity and engineering methods meet and are applied bespoke to individual spaces.
– Minimalism with bold geometry, keeping the spaces subdued with the introduction of strong geometrics or an art piece.
– Regenerative architecture with resilient infrastructure that allows for further evolution over time, providing natural ventilation, purified water and generating energy that the space requires to function.

If you could offer one piece of advice when it comes to designing, what would it be?
Listen and care. With bravery, vision and style translating visions into reality.

How important are The International Design & Architecture Awards?
Engaging peers in the industry and recognising their work is key. We all learn from one another, and we make our industry strong for future generations. Therefore, the International Design & Architecture Awards is fundamental in the progression of our field and community.

What projects are you currently working on?
Currently I’m collaborating with a leading developer in Norway on the concept for a new hospitality project; developing a boutique hotel concept in the Caribbean; working with a corporate client to design welcoming and hospitality spaces for workplaces; and lastly, awaiting kick-off on the refurbishment of a private residence in Kensington, London.

What was your favourite project to work on and why?
I thoroughly enjoyed working on the Oslo Penthouse. It was one of my favourite projects, as the brief encouraged boldness, originality, and the creation of a design unlike any trend or existing reference. Working with creative clients who respect art, design and architecture is always the best.

What was your most challenging project to work on and why?
The most challenging project I worked on was a villa in the south of Spain. By the time I was appointed, construction was already underway, which meant that many critical architectural decisions and limiting factors were firmly in place. This significantly reduced the flexibility to rework or further develop the architectural concept. The challenge, therefore, lay in finding creative ways to enhance spatial flow, refining interior details, and introducing thoughtful materiality to bring personality and cohesion to the project. It became an exercise in adaptability, problem-solving, and maximizing design impact despite tight constraints.

Which products/services could you not live without when designing? E.g. Lighting companies, furniture companies :
Specialist stone fabricators such as GD Stone, who I worked with closely to engineer the dining room wall and ceiling features in the Oslo project, as well as lighting specialists such as Addlux. In addition working with Sorrells Wine Room Specialist, in creating a unique design in limited space while offering room within room solution.

What are your aims and goals for the next twelve months? :
Over the next 12 months, my goal is to be engaged in a project with a unique concept, one that allows me to apply what I’ve learned so far, while also challenging me to explore new ideas and develop something truly distinctive. I want to continue pushing creative boundaries, learning from each stage of the process, and contributing to work that feels both original and meaningful. I would also like to explore Mycelium and other restorative materials.

Your most treasured possession?
My family and friends – although I do not possess them, I’m just grateful I have them in my life and they are a treasure.

Your favourite holiday destination?
Horse riding through the Andes in Argentina, staying at a hacienda nestled among endless mountain ranges and ending each day beneath the Milky Way with a glass of fine Malbec.

Your favourite hotel, restaurant & bar?
Hotel: Chateu La Coste, France.
Restaurant: Casa Maria Luigia, Modena, Italy.
Bar: Ekspedisicnshallen Bar, Sommerro, Oslo, Norway

Your favourite book, film & song?
Book: The Alchamist by Paolo Coelho
Film: Inception
Song: Hungry Eyes by Eric Carmen

Your favourite food and drink?
Food: I don’t have a favourite, but I’d go for steak and Japanese!
Drink: A good bold red wine too.

Your favourite way to spend an afternoon?
Having a clear email inbox, meditating and thinking about something new I would like to do that I haven’t done before.

If you weren’t in this sector, what would you alternative profession be?
Detective

Anything else interesting?
I used to be a professional flute player early teens! I also have a PADI diving licence.
