RK Studio has completed The Blackwood Project, a £1 million new build family home in Lancashire that demonstrates the value of a fully integrated approach to residential design. Working from the earliest stages alongside the architect responsible for the initial planning design, RK Studio developed the architecture, internal layouts and spatial planning into a warm and contemporary family residence tailored to the clients’ lifestyle.

By becoming involved before construction began, RK Studio was able to consider the property as a complete home rather than a collection of individual rooms. Every decision focused on how the family would move through the spaces, how rooms would connect and where furniture, storage, lighting and technology could be incorporated from the outset. The result is a home that balances luxury with everyday comfort while maintaining a consistent design language throughout.
RK Studio designed the interiors across the entire property, including the bathrooms, lighting, material selections and decorative finishes. A palette of warm neutrals, walnut, natural timber, marble and stone creates continuity while allowing each room to develop its own distinct character. In the kitchen, RK Studio carefully selected the finishes, colours and appliance locations before collaborating with a specialist kitchen company on the final cabinetry configuration.
A defining feature of the project is the extensive collection of bespoke furniture created specifically for the house. RK Studio designed and manufactured dressing rooms, wardrobes, media walls, an attic library cabinet and an impressive five metre dining room cabinet featuring backlit marble. The master suite stands out in particular, where a bespoke walnut dressing room with a back to back media wall and dressing table creates a seamless transition between the bedroom and dressing area, softened by elegant curved detailing.
RK Studio’s involvement extended beyond the house itself, encompassing the landscaping, outdoor seating areas, planting scheme and a separate leisure outbuilding complete with a games room, hot tub and steam room. By managing construction and coordinating the trades throughout the build, RK Studio successfully carried its original vision from concept to completion, delivering a cohesive home that reflects both exceptional craftsmanship and the individuality of the family who lives there.
