Shortlisted: Hotel Over 200 Rooms Global Award

The International Hotel & Property Awards 2026

The design for Hilton Anaheim was conceived as a destination that embodies a strong sense of place while meeting the operational demands of a high-volume hospitality environment. Led by interior designer Rodrigo Vargas Design (RVD), the project provided an opportunity to reassess the property’s vision through a local lens and realign it with both site conditions and long-term objectives. At its core, RVD aimed to deliver a timeless, practical, and flexible design that would perform aesthetically and functionally over time while remaining on schedule and within budget.

Given the hotel’s diverse built-in clientele, including families, leisure travelers, business guests, and sports teams, the interiors were required to accommodate a variety of uses without feeling overly themed or prescriptive. The resulting design strikes a balance between narrative and restraint, offering warmth, identity, and visual interest while remaining durable and adaptable for a high-traffic setting. Spaces are intuitive and welcoming, allowing guests to engage with them according to their individual needs.

The concept draws inspiration from Southern California’s indoor-outdoor lifestyle, referencing the sway of palm trees, the scent of citrus, and the texture of the earth. Anaheim’s agricultural heritage, particularly its historic orange groves, informed the use of organic materials, natural palettes, and layered textures. Subtle references to the 1984 Olympics appear through graphic language, artwork, and form, including organic furniture silhouettes and a signature illuminated ring chandelier in the lobby.

Design decisions were also shaped by existing site constraints, such as variations in guestroom flooring. Rather than viewing these as limitations, RVD embraced non-linear elements and organic forms to unify the spaces. Public areas emphasize warmth and light through greenery, luminous materials, and large-scale artwork, while guestrooms remain intentionally neutral to provide a calming retreat. The result is an accessible luxury experience that feels grounded, adaptable, and intrinsically connected to Southern California’s climate, culture, and lifestyle.
