Silent Yachts

Silent Yachts has introduced the Silent 80, a 24 metre catamaran designed from the outset as a fully integrated solar electric yacht. Rather than adapting a conventional motor yacht to hybrid technology, the company developed the vessel around renewable energy, ensuring that energy generation, storage, propulsion and onboard systems operate as a single ecosystem.

Measuring 24.38 metres in length with a beam of 10.93 metres, the Silent 80 offers interior volume comparable to a significantly larger monohull while benefiting from the efficiency and stability of a multihull platform. Central to the concept is a 22.4 kWp rooftop solar array, positioned horizontally to maximise real world solar capture and minimise shading. The system follows a zero shade principle, avoiding efficiency losses from vertical installations or obstructions.

Energy generated by the photovoltaic panels is stored in a lithium battery system with a standard capacity of 354 kWh, expandable to 708 kWh. This battery bank powers both propulsion and onboard systems, including full hotel loads such as air conditioning. A dedicated Battery Management System continuously monitors each marine certified LFP cell, tracking voltage and temperature in real time while managing safety and performance through integrated diagnostics.

Propulsion is delivered by two 200 kW continuous electric motors, enabling silent cruising without the vibration or emissions associated with conventional engines. A diesel generator is installed solely as a range extender, recharging the batteries when required but never directly powering the yacht. This approach allows the vessel to operate primarily on electric power while maintaining reliability during longer passages.

The Silent 80 also incorporates an onboard digital monitoring system that tracks photovoltaic energy generation and supports efficient energy planning. Software updates can be installed remotely, ensuring that the yacht’s energy management systems remain up to date over time.

According to Silent Yachts, the defining element of the Silent 80 is its solar first architecture. Solar panels, batteries and motors are installed in a modular configuration, enabling individual components to be upgraded without structural redesign. This approach not only extends the vessel’s technological lifespan but also supports reduced environmental impact, allowing the yacht to cruise quietly and independently while relying largely on energy generated directly from the sun.
