Vilnius Old Town Apartment

by UAB Nordinary Group

Shortlisted: Living Space - Europe Award

The International Design & Architecture Awards 2026

UAB Nordinary Group approached this renovation with the intention of gently reviving the apartment’s historic character while shaping a calm, contemporary home. The result is a warm, art filled interior where restored architectural details sit comfortably alongside modern design, creating a sense of quiet luxury.

Before renovation, the apartment was defined by stark white walls, blood red curtains and heavy antique style furniture. Although visually striking, the interior felt disconnected from the layered history of the old town setting. The central challenge for UAB Nordinary Group was to reconnect the space with its past and to reveal the beauty that had been partially hidden over time.

The design process was informed by archival research, traditional polychromy techniques and close collaboration with skilled restorers. Historical documents and photographs uncovered traces of the building’s former life, shaping a layered colour palette that references different eras while remaining harmonious and contemporary. Several frescoes identified in the archives were carefully restored, offering delicate glimpses of the building’s original artistry.

Original doors, wooden floors and brass cornices were meticulously restored, while lime plastered walls and preserved mouldings reinforced the authentic character of the space. These elements create a rich, intimate backdrop for everyday living.

The interior blends vintage and modern furniture with lighting, sculpture and paintings by Lithuanian artists. Thoughtful details such as natural linen curtains and a handmade Italian chandelier add lightness and refinement, while a playful life size horse sculpture introduces humour. Through a balanced mix of old and new, UAB Nordinary Group has created an interior that respects history while reinterpreting it for contemporary life.
