Project Name: Hypnosquid

Design Completed: 2019

Designer: Roberto Curto’

Roberto Curto Yacht & Design have stated that they do not just design conventional yachts, as normal products, they try to get inspired from more unusual things that may transmit a meta-physical emotion. The Hypnosquid concept comes from the mysterious attitude of molluscs, to be more precise the cuttlefish, which belong to Cephalopoda inclusive of squid, octopuses and nautiluses.

These marine molluscs are unique in their nature, and not just for their strange morphology, they are mimetic through their skin, which they use to show their feelings. The eyes of a cuttlefish are bright and express resourcefulness. Similarly, the Hypnosquid’s windows are located in the saloon, a private area from where you can observe what is around you. The cuttlefish’s fluid dynamic body is elegant, fast and agile and they can almost hypnotize with their movement and changing “impressionist painting” on their skin. Hypnosquid’s random position of portholes lead your eyes smoothly to the bow, where the tentacles join, hugging the hull.

The layout of the Hypnosquid concept is quite uncommon in comparison to the current yacht market, with accommodation for 10 guests compared to the usual 12. The “Duplex” owner’s cabin is in a completely private. The owner’s apartment located in the front of the ship, incorporates a full beam huge lobby, the area is two decks tall and a skylight passes through the big window on top. Guests cabin are located in the lower deck as usual but on a larger scale with full comforts.

The main deck is characterised by the big eyes of the squid where a stylish full beam lounge can be allocated, moving ahead you will find a game area, that is fully partitioned thanks to moving panels on the perimeter for high concentration poker game sessions. The dining area is fit for a 12 people dining table and is in close connection with the kitchen. In the upper deck you will find the wheelhouse with full access to the entire bow open area. Aft you have a wellness area including massage centre, gym an open-air solarium, and a cinema room.

With a full view ahead, on top of the boat and carved out in the mast you can find another wellness area with Jacuzzi and a big sun-bed in front of, studied to enjoy the sunset from the highest place on the boat. As depicted in Jules Verne’s, Twenty Thousand Leagues Under The Sea, squid and similarly the Hypnosquid concept evokes a mysterious feeling and a desire to discover the oceans.
