Project Name: Ascent

Design Concept Completed: 2019

Engineering Finalisation: 2020

Ascent is a full lie-flat seat developed for widebody aircraft bringing luxury automotive seating standards to commercial aviation passengers by Adient Aerospace.

Adient Aerospace is a joint venture between Adient and the Boeing Company. Adient is a world leader in automotive seating, they drew upon their automotive expertise and heritage in comfort and craftsmanship to design a business class seat with function and finishes unlike any other Business Class product flying today.

The ultimate design goal for Ascent was to deliver a high quality, luxurious product to the modern business class passenger synonymous with any high-end car interior they may have left behind in the airport parking garage before the flight. Focusing not only on passenger comfort of ergonomics, Adient Aerospace designed Ascent for a wholistic cabin experience adding thoughtful touches for wellness, sleeping and productivity.

Adient also challenged themselves to develop a product that met the needs of business passengers traveling alone, wanting complete privacy, to those traveling together, wanting social interaction during long haul flights. For those traveling alone, every Ascent seat position in the cabin offers a totally private suite with the use of composite side walls and a sliding privacy door that seals off and encloses the seat from all aisle traffic. For passengers traveling together, the center seats become a shared space when the privacy divider is fully lowered, creating the ‘Cabana Suite’ where couples can enjoy a movie or meal.

The Ascent seat kinematic offers passengers an unlimited amount of adjustment from the upright TTL (taxi-takeofflanding) position to the full-flat bed position. Adient can also offer the passenger a ‘Zero Gravity’ position, developed by NASA to relieve the effects of gravity of the human frame. The Ascent seat continues Adient Aerospace’s mission to deliver products that improve the experience of a world in motion.
