Specifying materials for a high-quality private yacht can be a delicate process. Functional, elegant and characterful, leather is an especially apt choice when creating a comfortable and functional living environment at sea, either inside or on deck. Foglizzo leather is specially engineered to meet the most stringent fire, safety and durability standards. Heir to the best Italian traditions, over three generations Foglizzo has been driven by a culture of excellence and guided by artisanal know-how, innovative technical skills and the ability to understand their customers’ needs.

Since 1921, Foglizzo’s reputation has been founded on the design and development of high-quality leathers for clients who require exclusivity and individual customisation. Foglizzo Leather’s innovation with Evo Leather is a new standard in terms of sustainability. Italy is one of the most important producers of oil and leathers in the world. The production of olive oil generates a waste in the olive oil vegetation water. Foglizzo Leather saw that this waste product could be used create a valuable, durable, environmentally sustainable and circular tanning. Unlike all other vegetable tanning, no natural resources are consumed, no forests are deforested as for the cultivation to extract vegetable tannins.

Evo Leather is sustainable at all stages of the process, only using the olive leaves as the ingredients for the leather tanning agent. This allows reduction of acids, salts, syntans and dyestuffs as compared to traditional tanning methods. An entire step of the tanning process, the traditional “pickling”, is no longer required. The wet-green® tanning of the pelts can start immediately after bating. It reduces water requirement by 30%, is chrome-free & metal-free, and saves energy in the tanning and depuration phase. The extracts from olive leaves intensify and prolong hydration, making the leather feel soft as well as acting as a dirt repellent. Leather is the best choice when looking for biodegradable, sustainable materials that are perfectly integrated into the circular economy.
