MY MOONSTONE is a 60 metre yacht which features custom interiors by Luxury Projects Studio (LP), who was asked to develop an interior design concept by Damen Yachting for the Amels 200. Lighting design plays a key role in the custom interiors of MOONSTONE.

Luxury Projects took a holistic approach with the lighting design fully incorporated into the Interior and domestic automation and with “individual lighting” then approached as a feature.

The designers fully explored LED technology and the use of indirect light to achieve the need of supplying light whilst simultaneously hiding its source. Effective lighting design can completely change a rooms’ ambiance and therefore Luxury Projects ensured that for every room on board there is a special light setting for every occasion. In order to achieve a calm but light ambiance Luxury Projects needed to achieve a very special design, and this was something they studied from the very beginning – how to enhance the colours and finish of all materials with the perfect lighting. Lighting was used not only to enhance interior features but also to support the feeling of a warm cosy interior and even be a feature itself.

Throughout the yacht Luxury Projects created spaces for the display of art, sculptures and paintings to ensure that warm and homely feeling. The designers moved away from the use of spotlights, except for in some places where direct lighting is needed, for example to enhance works of art in a specific place, and towards the use of indirect lighting which creates a far more intimate feeling on board. In certain areas, the lighting itself is a work of art, for example with an extraordinary custom-made chandelier and free-standing decorative lamps, which were custom designed with special finishes. In fact, the decorative lighting was treated much like the bespoke LP designed and supplied loose furniture, with integrated sea-fastening included from the design phase and discreet cable runs in order to have no visible wiring, all is perfectly integrated in the furniture. This was possible thanks to a preliminary study of the final position in the layout, parallel to the development of their design concepts.
