Interior Designer: JPA Design

JPA Design has unveiled a groundbreaking concept for private jet interiors, exploring the future of retrofit cabin environments with a focus on sustainability, wellness, and bespoke luxury. As the global fleet of private jets continues to age, JPA Design challenges the notion of replacing operational aircraft with new builds, advocating instead for retrofitting as a sustainable and innovative alternative.

The design concept, named Afterglow, redefines the private aviation experience by integrating human-centric elements into the cabin’s layout and aesthetics. Central to the concept is the idea of extending the lifecycle of private jets through thoughtful interior refurbishments, aligning with the practices seen in commercial aviation. This approach not only reduces waste but also enhances the appeal of existing aircraft, making them desirable for a new generation of travellers.

A key feature of the Afterglow cabin is its emphasis on passenger wellness, particularly through innovative lighting solutions. Circadian rhythms were carefully studied to develop bespoke lighting elements that simulate natural solar movements, such as sunrise and sunset. These programmed lighting sequences promote better sleep, heightened awareness, and smoother acclimatisation to new time zones, effectively reducing jet lag. A signature floating orb light, placed behind a tinted frosted pane, serves as both a design statement and a functional tool for improving onboard wellbeing.

The cabin’s layout further reinforces comfort and personalisation. A rear lounge space, complete with an adjoining washroom, is designed to offer passengers a secluded and private environment. This area features a mini bar, a W/C with a changing area, a full-height closet, and ample side furniture, creating a self-contained oasis for socialising, relaxing, or refreshing. The convertible sofa, capable of transforming into a full double bed, ensures convenience without compromising functionality, allowing uninterrupted access to amenities.

By moving away from legacy design elements and focusing on a tailored, contemporary aesthetic, JPA Design has created an interior that supports a wide range of activities while exuding craftsmanship and sophistication. The Afterglow concept not only enhances the passenger experience but also reinforces the value of retrofitted aircraft as sustainable and prestigious modes of transportation.
