The refit of the 50-metre MY Thanuja represents a comprehensive transformation that transcends the boundaries of a traditional yacht refurbishment. While iYacht GmbH was responsible for the yacht’s extended and modernised exterior, the interior was reimagined entirely by Katharina Raczek Design (KRD)—a studio known for its understated luxury and sophisticated material palettes.

Initially envisioned as a light interior refresh, the commission quickly evolved into a holistic redesign. Central to KRD’s approach was the use of lighting as a design element—not merely functional, but atmospheric and sculptural. The lighting strategy features a layered concept of ambient, task, decorative, and artistic illumination. Signature elements include the illuminated sky lounge bar with graphic linearity, vertical light rods, and bespoke neon art, all of which contribute to a warm, modern, and highly personalised atmosphere.

KRD’s architectural language combines clean lines with richly textured materials, ensuring each space feels contemporary yet inviting. In the Sky Lounge, for example, linear light elements provide visual clarity, contrasted by organic wall sconces and a sculptural chandelier that introduces softness and visual intrigue.

Materiality plays a pivotal role in the sensory experience of the yacht’s interior. Luxurious finishes such as velvet, cashmere, leather, marble, and burr oak are balanced by bold colour accents in deep green, plum, and midnight blue—adding depth and individuality to the minimalist canvas.

Beyond the aesthetic transformation, Thanuja also received a complete technical overhaul, ensuring optimal performance and sustainability. Every design decision was tailored to maritime functionality, combining elegance, comfort, and durability in a seamless floating sanctuary shaped by Katharina Raczek Design.
